I just posted the audio from yesterday’s panel discussion. You can find it here. I managed in the editing and conversion to get the audio level fairly constant, which wasn’t true for those actually in the audience yesterday, but the questions from the audience are not very clear, since they were not closely  miked.

Still, it’s the best quality audio yet. We’re learning…

Tracy joined the Board in March, and her term expires in 2013.

She moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1978 and has been a part of the photographic community since then. She has always considered her role within the photographic community to be one of support, encouragement and, in any way possible, inspiration. She has served on numerous boards and committees for nonprofit organizations since she became a resident of the area. In the field of photography she was the co-executive producer with Mary Green on the film The Roots of California Photography: The Monterey Legacy. She enjoys volunteer work because she believes in doing so she contributes to the continual improvement of her community.

Barbara Moon-Batista began her term on the CPA Board in March. She has previously served on the Board between 1992 and 1995.

Barbara has 35 years experience in commercial photography and teaching. She is part of a husband-wife team that runs  Batista Moon Studio that has served the Central Coast since 1974.

Born in Los Angles CA in 1947, the family relocated to Carmel in 1959. Barbara became influenced at an early age by the work of Edward and Cole Weston and Al Weber also the West Coast School of Photography. Georgia O’Keefe and Imogene Cunningham had profound influence on her when women in photography were rare. She has an AA in Photography from Santa Monica City College and a BA in photography from Antioch College West.

Barbara has collaborated with her husband Fernando Batitsta and has run  studios in Monterey, San Francisco and Santa Fe NM. She has taught workshops through UCSC Extension, taught photography at Santa Catalina School for Girls in Monterey as well as private workshops  and is currently teaching classes  at the Pacific Grove Adult School and the Photographers’ Formulary in Montana with her husband/ partner. Barbara has a passion for education and is currently planning to teach more workshops and classes on photography, lighting and the creative process.

If you weren’t at the CPA artist conversation and opening this past Saturday afternoon, you missed out on a great time! The room was packed to hear Martha Casanave talk briefly (about 20 minutes) about her 40 plus years of photographing people in our community. Lots of recognizables were on hand including Jerry Takigawa, Barry Masteller, Jane Olin, Kim and Gina Weston, Al Weber and Dick Garrod. Barbara and Fernando of Batista Moon Studios were pouring wine and serving tasty delectables for all of us to enjoy. If you haven’t seen it yet, please take time to stop by the gallery to take in this fabulous show. You know where we are and you know when we’re open!

Tracy Morrison

Huntington Witherill has resigned from the CPA Board. As he said in his resignation letter (ellipses indicate deletions):

When I joined the board in late February, 2009, it was originally my intention to remain on the board for no more than six months in effort to help the organization get back on its feet… At the time, I had assumed that six months would be sufficient to get the job done. In retrospect, six months was insufficient and thus I have remained on the board for a full year.

Because I have previously served a full-term as a board member, back when the organization was first formed in the early 1990s, I have continued to feel it appropriate that I step aside at the earliest opportunity in order to give others a chance to serve…

I would like to express my thanks to all members of the board for the hard work that each of you have contributed during what has been a time of uncertainty and rebuilding of the organization. I am confident that the work we collectively accomplished over the past year will help to ensure that the Center for Photographic Art remains a viable and healthy organization…

For years, Huntington has been a great photographer, an enthusiastic supporter of other photographers, a gifted teacher, an incredible asset to the Center, and, speaking personally, a greatly-valued friend. I’m sorry that he won’t be on the Board, but my regret is relieved by the knowledge that Tracy Morrison, Huntington’s talented wife, has joined the Board. More on that later.

I’m a bit late in getting this posted, but I’d like to welcome Robin Ward to the CPA Board.

Robin has 10 years of experience in web marketing, design and development. She was the Director of Web Marketing for Excelligence Learning Corporation from 2003 – 2007.

Robin is currently the sole proprietor of Webmontage, a web design, development and marketing service provider. She holds a BA in English from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Robin is the recipient of a Merit Award from Color magazine’s 2009 Color Portfolio Contest; several of her photographs were published in the November 2009 Special Edition. Her work has been included in numerous national juried group exhibits.
